Connecting to an FTP server



You need to connect to an FTP server before you can upload or download a site or perform any file transfer operations.

Before you can connect to a server the first time, you have to set up access to it. For information, see Setting up FTP access.

To connect to the current FTP server from the FTP tab in a site window:

1 Open the site.

2 Click the FTP Server Connect/Disconnect button () on the toolbar, or choose Site > FTP Server > Connect. The contents of the FTP directory on the server are displayed in the FTP tab.

To change the current server for FTP connections from the FTP tab:

1 Display FTP & WebDAV Server settings for the site.

2 Choose a new server from the menu at the top right. The menu shows all servers listed in FTP Server Network preferences as well as servers listed only for the site.

3 Click OK.

To connect to an FTP server from the FTP Browser:

1 Choose File > FTP Browser.

2 Do one of the following:

  • Click Connect to connect to the current server.
  • Choose a new server from the menu at the top right and click Connect. The menu shows all servers listed in the FTP Server Network preferences.


  • Publishing Web Sites > Connecting to a Web server > Connecting to an FTP server
